A gala dinner fit for the President

For the past decade, Farm Design Events has been working with Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) on their top-end events. These include the not-to-be missed annual Mining Indaba Networking Cocktail, the RMB Jazz Festival, and the RMB Starlight Classics.

We were proud to be asked to design and co-ordinate the gala dinner of the RMB Think Summit. This prestigious dinner was hosted by their new CEO, Emrie Brown, and was not only attended by the top executives of RMB, but also by the well-known Malcolm Gladwell, and the guest speaker was President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Forum Embassy Hill on Southern Cross Drive, Bishops Court, was selected as a venue. This venue, set in a beautiful, private garden, has a reputation for superb food and world-class service.

The venue was abundantly decorated with seasonal indigenous flowers – in particular we selected white King Proteas (our National flower) to take pride of place. The décor perfectly complemented the beautiful mountain-side venue.

We used our National Flower, the beautiful King Protea, and other indigenous flowers in the decor throughout the venue.

We worked with the chefs to design a menu showcasing the best local ingredients, and covering all dietary requirements. Local wines from the Constantia Valley Wine Route were selected for the wine list.

Sublime background music was supplied by the Rosenthorn Trio on cello and violin. Their first set during arrivals was classically inspired, but after the speeches they entertained guests with well-known Jazz standards.

Using an ‘out-of-town’ venue came with its own set of logistics. Delegates arrived by coach; a strong perimeter and security vetting was set up with the aid the SAPS; and seamless timing was ensured by close co-ordination between the transport, kitchen, service and entertainment.

Another very successful event by Farm Design Events.
